Prairie Meadows: Gelding looks tops

Graysideofjustice heads a field of 11, including an entry, in Saturday's $40,000 ITBOA Sales Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

The 5 1/2-furlong futurity is restricted to horses who passed through the sales ring here at the the Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association 2-year-olds in training sale in April.

Graysideofjustice is the most impressive of the four winners entered in the futurity, having scored a convincing six-length victory over maiden special weight company here on June 14 to earn a field-topping Beyer Speed Figure of 62.

Tim Gleason trains Graysideofjustice for his owner-breeder, Dennis Johnson, who bought him back for $33,000 at the sale.

Alex Birzer has a return call aboard Graysideofjustice, a gelded son of Lit de Justice, in the futurity. Graysideofjustice signaled his readiness for Saturday's event when he recorded a bullet five-furlong work here last Sunday.

Conrad W, coupled in the wagering with maiden Jeffery W, scored a gate-to-wire victory over statebred maidens at first asking on June 10. Conrad W, trained by Ray Tracy, then finished sixth against open stakes rivals here July 3 in the five-furlong Prairie Gold Juvenile. Conrad W faces easier on Saturday and is a major threat under Mike Allen, who has a return call for owner-breeder Lloyd DeBruckyer.

Although still a maiden, Concert King has a big shot in the futurity. He finished second in his career debut behind Graysideofjustice and returned to be beaten only a half-length after dueling throughout here on July 8.

Kelly Von Hemel trains Concert King, a gelded son of King of Scat, and has given the call to Tim Doocy on Saturday.
