Prairie Meadows: Filly an upset threat

Abidon, who won at first asking, will be an overwhelming favorite in the $60,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows on Saturday.

An Iowa-bred son of Devil His Due, Abidon had his victory validated when the runner-up returned to win in his next start. Jockey Tim Doocy thinks enough of Abidon to return from his Remington Park base to ride. Trained by Jeff Barkley, Abidon will race on Lasix for the first time.

His main foe would appear to be the lone filly in the six-horse field, who is also the only other winner, Judy Faye. Although she is coming into the race off a seven-week layoff, she has fired back-to-back bullet workouts. Cesar Torres, who was aboard for the filly's win, has the return engagement. Judy Faye is coupled in the wagering with Designedforspeed.

Of the maidens, Hesablumin may have the most upside. After an encouraging debut, he showed little in his next start, so trainer Kelly Von Hemel will send him out with blinkers for his third start.

All of the horses in the field will be making their first start at six furlongs.
