Prairie Meadows: Duel goes to Counterfeit Gold

Counterfeit Gold ($14.80) survived a three-wide pace duel and scored a three-quarter-length victory over Dawn of War in the $50,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile at Prairie Meadows.

Counterfeit Gold finished the five furlongs in 57.92 seconds. Dawn of War got up for second in the final stride over the filly Hello Liberty, who had dueled between horses throughout. Riders Up, the 4-5 favorite, faded to fifth after being involved in the pace duel.

Counterfeit Gold is now 2 for 2 for trainer Willie Padilla. Iram Diego rode the winner.

In the co-feature, Whatsitgonnatake ($8.60) overcame a troubled break and drew off late for a 3 3/4-length victory in the Prairie Gold Lassie for 2-year-old fillies.

Jockey Greta Kuntzweiler was forced to steady Whatsitgonnatake leaving the gate, but the pair recovered quickly and tracked the pacesetters to the stretch before drawing off late. Sentimental Charm finished second, four lengths clear of 2-1 favorite Jazzy Okie. The winning time for five furlongs was 58.07.
