Prairie Meadows: Corbett celebrates birthday with Cyclones win aboard Cainam

Cainam, benefiting from a contested pace and an excellent rail-skimming ride by Glenn Corbett, surged clear in the final furlong to win the $75,000 Cyclones Handicap on Saturday evening at Prairie Meadows. The win helped Corbett celebrate his 36th birthday.

Angled over immediately from the outside post in the field of six Iowa-bred geldings, Cainam slipped past pacesetting 3-5 favorite Kate's Main Man and drew off by 5 1/4 lengths. Fellow closer West Albany rallied for second. Kate's Main Man held on for third after fending off Wings of War in a duel for the lead.

Cainam, a James R. Leech homebred trained by Lynn Chleborad, ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.41. Cainam ($18.80), a 4-year-old son of Is It True who was last season's Iowa-bred 3-year old champion, earned $45,000 for his connections.
