Defending champion Coach Jimi Lee ($3.40) wore down Premium Saltine in the final sixteenth of a mile to score a neck victory in Monday's six-furlong, $125,000 at Prairie Meadows.

Jockey Craig Perret had Coach Jimi Lee just off the pace set by El Dorato Shooter through a half-mile in 45.96. Premium Saltine took the lead inside rivals entering the stretch, and the five-horse Sprint field was separated by less than two lengths with a furlong to run, before the top pair kicked clear.

Coach Jimi Lee finished six furlongs in 1:09.10. Jim Divito trains and co-owns Coach Jimi Lee with Lee Battaglia. The victory for Coach Jimi Lee, a 5-year-old gelded son of Roar, was his 12th in 32 career starts and increased his earnings to $667,068.

* Perret swept the Independence Day stakes here when he captured the $100,000 for fillies and mares aboard Injustice. Injustice led throughout in the six-furlong Saylorville and scored by 3 1/4 lengths
