Prairie Meadows: Cadman spoils Sellers's return

Email

ALTOONA, Iowa - Curious Conundrum and apprentice jockey Zoe Cadman rallied for a half-length victory in the final strides of the $75,000 Prairie Meadows Oaks, and spoil the return of jockey Shane Sellers, who finished second aboard 1-5 favorite Momentous.

Cadman and Curious Conundrum saved ground to the stretch, stalking pacesetter Supreme Song. They then split horses a furlong from the wire, and collared Momentous in the final strides, running the 1 1/16 miles in 144.64.

Momentous was jockey Shane Sellers's first mount since December; he had been out due to reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Sellers settled his mount early and rallied to take the lead entering the stretch.

Curious Conundrum won for the second time in 16 career starts for trainer Eugene Brajczewski, and sent her career earnings to $114,463. Curious Conundrum returned $69.20 to win as the longest shot in the six-horse field. The exacta paid $143.60.
