ALTOONA, Iowa - Billy Idel ($23.80) overcame a poor start and rallied to score a 1 1/4-length victory over Mr. Mingo in the $59,950 Gray's Lake Stakes for Iowa-bred 3-year-old colts and geldings at Prairie Meadows.

Billy Idel broke in the air and was away last of the eight starters in the six-furlong race under jockey Ken Shino. Shino remained patient and saved ground while advancing entering the stretch after Triage and Lord Alexander had dueled through a half-mile run in 45.93 seconds.

Shino angled Billy Idel off the inside and split horses with a sixteenth remaining, hit the front 50 yards from the wire, and won going away in 1:11.77.
