Prairie Meadows: 'Biglie" gets there


Biglie Smallworld ($12.40) overcame some early traffic trouble and rallied to score a 2 1/4-length victory over Tricky Mon in the $40,000 Prairie Meadows Freshman.

Biglie Smallworld, under jockey Glenn Corbett, was forced to steady shortly after the start and trailed the field before launching a four-wide rally on the turn. Biglie Smallworld drew clear in the final sixteenth and finished the six furlongs in 1:10.64. The 8-5 favorite, Tricky Mon, rallied in tandem with the winner on the turn and took second place, a neck in front of pacesetter Jack Grant.

Chris Richard trains Biglie Smallworld, who scored his first stakes victory and second win overall from four career starts.

In the co-featured $40,000 Prairie Meadows Debutante, Lunarlady ($48) rallied to the front a sixteenth out and held off a fast-closing Boat's Gypsy for a three-quarter-length victory.

Joel Campbell rode Lunarlady to the victory, and they covered the six furlongs in 1:11.17. Boat's Gypsy, who trailed at the quarter pole, rallied strongly to finish second, three-quarters of a length in front of Tejano's Oasis.

For Lunarlady, trained by Scott Blasi, it was her second career win from six starts for her owner-breeder, Heiligbrodt Racing Stable.

In the $40,000 Central Iowa Stakes for fillies and mares, Defuhr ($38.40) took advantage of a good trip under jockey Danish Sukie and scored a length victory over the 2-5 favorite, Precocious Kat.

Defuhr, trained by John Wainwright, covered the the 1 1/16 miles in n 1:45.24.
