ALTOONA, Iowa – Beware the Devil glided up to his favored stablemate Rudy's Edge on the far turn, forged clear into the stretch, and went on to a decisive 5 1/2-length tally in the $99,598 Iowa Stalllion Stakes.

Patiently handled by Alex Birzer, who was registering his meet leading win No. 73, the Lynn Chleborad-trained Beware the Devil outstayed his six rivals while covering the mile and 70-yard distance in 1:43.77.

The filly Rudy's Edge, who was sent off at 6-5, set solid fractions of 23.47 seconds and 47.87 before giving way to Beware the Devil. She dug in gamely to fend off the rallying A Little Edgy for second. Beware the Devil paid $6.20 to win, and the Chleborad-trained exacta returned $17.60.

Beware the Devil, a 3-year-old Devil His Due gelding bred and owned by Donald Schrage, coupled his Iowa Stallion Stakes win with a 10 1/4-length victory in last season's Iowa Stallion Futurity.

Collecting $60,701 for his connections, Beware the Devil ran his career earnings to $173,616.

In the finale on Saturday's evening card, jockey Ken Tohill scored his 2,999th lifetime win when Drew Boy wired a field of Iowa-bred conditioned claimers.
