Power failure shuts Sam Houston

Sam Houston Race Park in Houston was forced to cancel its final five races on Friday night because of a power failure. The track is scheduled to race on Saturday night, when it will run the $100,000 Maxxam Gold Cup.

There were heavy rains in the area on Friday, and the power failure hit just before the start of the sixth race. Officials called the remainder of the card off at about 9:45 p.m. Central. The races that were not run, 6-10, are scheduled to be brought back as extras, according to officials with Sam Houston.
