Point Attended remains perfect at Turf Paradise

After a failed foray back to Southern California earlier this month, Point Attended returned to his favorite track, Turf Paradise, and got back on track Saturday, capturing the $25,000 Swift Stakes.

Owned by Bill Dory and trained by Robertino Diodoro, Point Attended benefited, as expected, from a hot pace in the 5 1/2-furlong race. Ridden by Jorge Carreno, Point Attended ($7.80) sat just off the hot pace of 21.53 and 43.94 seconds set by six-furlong world-record holder and defending champion Twin Sparks, pounced on that rival into the lane, and drew off to win comfortably by 3 1/2 lengths in a brisk 1:02.21.

Rule by Force lagged back and finished well for second while no real threat to the winner, while Twin Sparks finished third in what was an improved effort off his last few starts. Five Star Fortune, the slight 5-2 favorite, dueled with Twin Sparks early and faded to finish seventh in the field of eight.

Point Attended, a 5-year-old gelded son of Tale of the Cat, is now 5 for 5 over this track. This effort sends him into the meet’s marquee event, the $75,000 Phoenix Gold Cup at six furlongs here Feb. 19, as the best of the local contingent and one of the favorites depending on who might ship in from Southern California for the race.

The winner’s share of $15,000 gives Point Attended a career record of 7 wins from 20 starts and $122,696.
