ARCADIA, Calif.-Trainer Todd Pletcher recorded the 2,000th win of his record-setting career with On the Virg in Sunday’s eighth race at Santa Anita. The victory was the latest milestone for Pletcher. In 2007, his nationwide operation set a single-season earnings record of $28,572,697, breaking the previous mark of $26,820,243 he set in 2006. Pletcher, 41, won Eclipse Awards as the nation’s outstanding trainer from 2004-06 and is a finalist for the same title for the 2007 season. Pletcher had two wins at Santa Anita on Sunday, beginning with Loh Collado ($11.80) in a maiden race on turf. "It’s a milestone," Pletcher said of his 2,000th win. "When you put into perspective of what Dale Baird did, it’s a long way off." Baird, who was killed in a car accident last month, won 9,445 races, a record for an American trainer. On the Virg, 3, was making his second start, having finished sixth as the even-money favorite in a maiden race over six furlongs at Hollywood Park on Dec. 8. On the Virg ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.17 under jockey Garrett Gomez.
