Plenty of speed in front of Humble Janet

Humble Janet could get a nice pace to run down on Sunday in the $60,000 Chaves County at Zia Park in Hobbs, N.M. The one-mile race for fillies and mares drew an assorted group of front-runners that includes Littlemiss Allison from Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alberta.

Humble Janet, who has been working at Churchill Downs for Millennium Farms and trainer Steve Asmussen, is seeking her first stakes win after a couple of close calls last year. She rallied for second in both the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks and Grade 3 Arlington Oaks, and could get a similar trip in the Chaves County.

The presence of Stormin Quality, Prairie Charm, She's Outrageous, and Littlemiss Allison should make for a strong pace in the race. Humble Janet, who in her last start ran sixth in a one-mile allowance at Presque Isle Downs on Aug. 29, will break from post 9 in a field of 10 and will be ridden by Casey Lambert.

She is seeking her fifth win in what will be her first start at Zia, and she has run well over a handful of different surfaces, with wins at Oaklawn Park, Churchill, and Woodbine.

Littlemiss Allison, who won the first five starts of her career, shows two works at Zia. She was fourth last out in the $100,000 City of Edmonton, her first start in three months. Ken Tohill has the mount for trainer Greg Tracy.

Another of interest is Snowdrop, who in her last start won the $50,000 West Mesa Handicap at Albuquerque on Aug. 24. Alfredo Juarez Jr. has the mount for trainer Bennie Woolley.
