Pleasantly Perfect fee: $40K

Pleasantly Perfect, currently training to defend his Breeders' Cup Classic title, will have a $40,000 stud fee when he retires at the end of the year.

Lane's End and Pleasantly Perfect's owner, Gerald A. Ford's Diamond A Racing Corporation, announced late last month that the 6-year-old horse would stand at Lane's End in Versailles, Ky., beginning in 2005.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Pleasantly Perfect has won three Grade 1 races: the 2003 Breeders' Cup Classic, the 2004 Dubai World Cup, and the 2004 Pacific Classic, his most recent race. He has more than $7.3 million in earnings.

Pleasantly Perfect is by Pleasant Colony out of Regal State, a French Group 1-winning mare by Affirmed. He sold to Diamond A at the 1999 Keeneland September yearling sale for $725,000.
