Platinum Princess wins Carousel Stakes

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Platinum Princess gave her trainer, Steve Asmussen, his third straight win in Oaklawn Park's $50,000 Carousel Stakes on Saturday, when she led throughout for a three-quarter length win over Miss Elsie. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to True Tails.

A downpour hit right before the Carousel. Platinum Princess ($5) broke well, and led the field through fractions of 22.49 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.05 for the half-mile mark, with True Tails in close pursuit. Platinum Princess held off a late bid from Miss Elsie, and went on to cover the six furlongs for fillies and mares in the slop in 1:11.61.

Stewart Elliott rode Platinum Princess. The win was her first in a stakes. Platinum Princess has now won 5 of 20 career starts and $203,926. She races for John G. Sikura Jr.

Asmussen won the Carousel last year with Savorthetime and in 2004 with Eternal Cup. He also won the race in 1998 with Little Sister.
