Pinnacle: Contenders run deep in Regret

A competitive field of 10 Michigan-bred 3-year-old fillies go in the featured Regret Stakes over six furlongs at Pinnacle Race Course.

The likely favorite in the $50,000 race will be the front-running Equalitysdebutante. She has earnings of just under $150,000 from 3 wins and 3 seconds in 7 starts, and has the potent team of trainer Gerald Bennett and rider Terry Houghton in her corner.

Clever Idea merits a chance based on her early speed and the fact that she has defeated Equalitysdebutante in both of her victories. In her last try against Equalitysdebutante, she was a well-beaten fourth in last fall's Michigan Sire Stakes, which was won by Equalitysdebutante. Federico Mata rides for trainer Dave Kueffner.

Irish Date rates an outside chance based on a likely pace scenario of a scramble for the lead. Irish Date was buried in her last start, which came in June in a restricted stakes at Belmont Park, but she has shown she can close at this level. Cheries Challenge is a hard-knocker for trainer Richard Rettele and has seven in-the-money finishes in eight starts.

Run West has hit the board in 6 of 7 starts, although her front-running style puts her at a disadvantage. Wave Pool and Juicy Loots have had chances against these and came empty. Dance of the Hour and Fortylinesofrhythm enter as maidens, and Twilight Thistle makes her Michigan debut as an outsider for her new trainer, Roger Spiess.
