BALTIMORE – The undefeated Agave Kiss rolled to her sixth straight win Friday with an overpowering, front-running victory in the $100,000 Miss Preakness Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
Agave Kiss ($3.20), the heavy favorite, broke like a shot under jockey Ramon Dominguez, quickly opened a daylight advantage on her rivals, and was never threatened. She finished 5 1/2 lengths clear of runner-up Millionreasonswhy, with Ageless another 3 1/4 lengths back in third in the field of seven.
Gypsy Robin and Singlet were scratched.
Agave Kiss set fractions of 23.06 seconds for the opening quarter, 45.37 for a half-mile, and 57.40 for five furlongs en route to a final time of 1:10.40 for six furlongs on the fast main track.
Rudy Rodriguez trains Agave Kiss for the Flying Zee Stable of Viane Lizza. Dominguez was riding her for the first time because Ryan Curatolo, her regular rider, is ironing out visa issues in his native France.
Rodriguez said his major goal for Agave Kiss this summer is the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 25.

Love this super-speedy filly; just a lot of fun to watch her run. Time now to step her up to Grade 1's, and/or test her at slightly longer distances.

Best Bets
MAGNIFCENTMILLION is obviously not today's "best bet" because of his exploits, other than running against Belmont Stakes-bound Giant Finish and allowance winner Glowing Ember last fall; rather, it's more an indictment against the others, along with the fact that the lone special-weight dropper is bred to love any moisture in the track. BROADWAY HAT is third off the bench for meet-leading trainer who saddled four winners Thursday; the half-empty view is he has burned chalk players time and again since last May.
