Email

BOSSIER CITY, La. - It was not as easy as his price would have indicated, but heavy favorite and 123 pound highweight Pie N Burger wore down Meteor Impact in the last going to win Sunday's $50,000 . Early pacesetter Record Assembly reported home third followed by Seainsky. Rosecoloredglasses and Cajole were late scratches.

John Jacinto placed Pin N Burger ($2.60) just off the pace and three wide through fractions of :49.22 for the half and 1:13.45 for the three quarters. Following Meteor Impact to the front turning for home, the winner proved best under firm handling. The final time for the mile and a sixteenth was 1:45.16 over a track labeled as good.

Pie N Burger is trained by Cole Norman and owned by Kagele Brothers, Inc. and James A. Bailey. The 6-year-old Twining gelding won for the second time this year and for the first time in stakes company since annexing the Seabiscuit Handicap at Santa Anita on Breeders' Cup Day last October. He now has won 13 times from 38 starts and earned just over $787,000.
