Philadelphia: 'Worldwind' romps

Whirlwind Romance with Ryan Barber riding, wins the $100,000 Turf Monster Handicap at Philadelphia Park on Monday.

Worldwind Romance returned to the East Coast for the first time since September and regained his old form for an easy 5 1/4-length victory in the $100,000 at Philadelphia Park.

A 7-year-old trained by Mark Shuman for owner Michael Gill, Worldwind Romance last year reeled off four consecutive wins in turf sprints at four different tracks in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Kentucky. After failing to fire in the Grade 3 Hollywood Turf Express in California and two starts at the Fair Grounds, he was given an extended vacation.

Making his first start since February, Worldwind Romance ($5.40) accelerated when asked to move between horses on the turn by jockey Ryan Barber and drew clear down the stretch. He covered five furlongs on firm turf in 57.07 seconds.

Cumby Texas, the early pacesetter, held second, a half-length in front of Nolimosforyou.
