Lady of the Future ran down favored Where We Left Off to win the $100,000 Dr. James Penny Memorial at Philadelphia Park by a nose.

Lady of the Future and jockey Harry Vega took advantage of a contested pace in the Penny, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. Reine des Neiges, Orkan, and Boozin' Susan battled through early fractions of 24.12 and 48.78 seconds. Orkan took the lead heading into the stretch, but Where We Left Off and Lady of the Future were rolling. They came to the wire together, with Lady of the Future winning the head bob. Caught in the Rain finished third in the 10-horse field.

Owned by Max Pearson and trained by Thomas Greene, Lady of the Future ($19.20) ran the distance in 1:43.80. The victory was her ninth in 29 and her first since she won the Waya at Laurel last October.
