HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Petrina Above avenged her recent setback at the hands of arch rival Flying Birdie with authority on Sunday with an easy 5 1-4 length victory over Quick Blue in the $75,000 . Flying Birdie finished a tiring fifth as the 6-5 favorite in a field of 11 filly and mare turf specialists.

Flying Birdie, who easily defeated Petrina Above under allowance conditions 17 days earlier, was hard used contesting a :21.29 opening quarter with Follow Me Home. Petrina Above rated just behind the dueling leaders, found ample room to slip along the hedge to assume command near the quarter pole then easily drew off through the stretch.

Quick Blue rallied belatedly from the inside to edge Tchula Miss by a nose for second money as both Flying Bridie and Follow Me Home weakened badly from their early efforts.

Petrina Above, who has now come out on top in five of her seven meetings with Flying Birdie, returned $9.00. Her final time of :55.20 seconds was just one fifth off the five furlong track record set the previous afternoon by Bop in the Yankee Affair Stakes.

"I didn't think she's be as close as she was," said Frank Carlisi who trains Petrina Above for owner Alfred Luccarelli. "I was surprised but I'm very happy. The key is to get somebody to run early with Flying Birdie. The last time nobody ran with her."

Omar Camejo was aboard Petrina Above for the first time in the Bob Slater.

"She had a very good trip, was very relaxed," said Camejo. "When the hole opened up she made her run and that was all there was to it."
