Peter Pryor, Kentucky veterinarian, dies at 58


Peter Pryor DVM, a Lexington, Ky.-based veterinarian whose clients included Lane’s End Farm, died of esophageal cancer on Sept. 28 at the age of 58.

A native of Denver, Colo., Pryor attended Colorado State University for three years and received early admission to the School of Veterinary Medicine, receiving his graduate and undergraduate degree simultaneously in 1980.

Pryor completed an internship and residency at the University of California, Davis, then spent the rest of his life practicing veterinary medicine in Kentucky, specializing in equine lameness and orthopedics.

Pryor is survived by his mother Phyllis, his wife Lucie VanMeter, and his children Peter and Elizabeth Alden. He is also survived by his sister Susan Willson, brother Michael and aunt Petie Pryor.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. Eastern at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington. A memorial mass will be held in Denver on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. Mountain at Blessed Sacrament Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Peter Brinton Pryor Memorial Fund for Esophageal Cancer Research at the University of Michigan, Thoracic Surgery Department in care of Dr. Marc Orringer.
