Perfect spot for Lt. Regent

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Lt. Regent appears to have found her favorite spot in Sunday's featured sixth race at Assiniboia Downs, a second-level allowance for fillies and mares with an optional claiming price of $16,000 at five furlongs.

Trained by Emile Corbel, Lt. Regent won two starts at this level last May before finishing fifth in the LaVerendrye Stakes. Lt. Regent was then sent to Northlands Park, where her best finish in three starts was a third. She then returned to make her final three starts of the season at Assiniboia, scoring one win over $10,000 claimers.

A 6-year-old daughter of Native Regent, Lt. Regent is 3 for 3 at five or 5 1/2 furlongs and will break from post 1 under Travis Hightower.

On Wild Ground and Cindy Embers will be making their first local starts as 4-year-olds.

On Wild Ground won against allowance foes twice last season and defeated conditioned claimers in her other win. Trained by Ardelll Sayler, On Wild Ground also finished fourth in the Jack Hardy Stakes and Assiniboia Oaks.

Cindy Embers also won three times last season, with one victory over an allowance field and the other two in Manitoba-bred stakes races.

Borntobeloved and Cobra's Princess each won four races last year.

Borntobeloved makes her local debut for trainer Martin Drexler. Her wins wins last season came over lower-level claimers at Fort Erie.

Cobra's Princess defeated first-level allowance company in her 2005 debut before adding three more victories over claimers. Trained by Mike Nault, Cobra's Princess ran third against $8,000 claimers here last Sunday.

Lot of Hope won three races against considerably weaker competition in 2005.

The field of eight rounds out with Strike an Image and Vying Vixen, both of whom were winless last season.
