Perfect Harmony wins Cocodrie


Perfect Harmony overtook the leaders in the stretch and drove to a three-quarter-length win over Zarb's Gunner in the $40,000 Cocodrie at Delta Downs on Saturday night. It was another half-length back in third to favorite Magic Sunset.

The Cocodrie was one of two Louisiana-bred stakes on the card. Kimua Baby ($5.40) wired the field in the $40,000 Gardenia.

Perfect Harmony ($16.40) raced several lengths off the pace in the Cocodrie, and covered the 6 1/2 furongs, run around two turns, in 1:20.21. Kerwin Clark rode the winner for trainer Alvin Sider.

Perfect Harmony earned $24,000 for the win, his fifth in 15 career starts. He has now earned $111,732. Perfect Harmony races for Glen Jones and Missy Rutherford.

Kimua Baby won the Gardenia by a length and a half over Collectzcat. She covered the 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares in 1:21.95. Curt Bourque rode the winner for owner George Ackel Jr. and trainer Jonas Gibson. Kimua Baby has now won 4 of 15 starts and $95,335.

The Gardenia was the first career stakes win for Gibson, who began training in June 2005.
