Peppers Pride to be bred to Tiznow

Peppers Pride, who on Thursday was retired with a perfect 19 for 19 record, will be bred to Tiznow, her owner, Joe Allen, said Friday. He said Peppers Pride is scheduled to be shipped from New Mexico to Kentucky around Feb. 1.

Tiznow stands at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., which played a role in the decision.

"We like the horse and we like the fact that he's getting runners," said Alen, who also bred Peppers Pride. "Plus, we like the fact that WinStar has been very good to New Mexico."

WinStar is a past sponsor of the Sunland Park Derby. Peppers Pride, who was trained by Joel Marr, spent her entire career racing in New Mexico, where she set a modern North American record for consecutive wins Oct. 4, when she won her 17th straight race in an optional claiming allowance at Zia Park. She ran twice more, with her career finale coming in the $125,000 New Mexico Horse Racing Commission Handicap for New Mexico-breds at Sunland on Dec. 14.

Peppers Pride, a 6-year-old who earned $1,066,085, will be boarded at Richland Hills Farm in Midway, Ky.
