The Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association named its year-end award winners for the 2014 season at Parx Racing on Wednesday, highlighted by Horse of the Year Favorite Tale.

Eligibility for the awards was open to Pennsylvania-breds who met the minimum requirement of starts at Parx, of which the PTHA is the certified horsemen’s group.

Favorite Tale took home honors as Horse of the Year and top 3-year-old male, following a campaign in which he won five of 11 starts for earnings of $380,326. The gelded son of Tale of the Cat won the Grade 3 Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx after winning the Gold Fever Stakes earlier in the season. He also placed in Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes and a pair of stakes at Saratoga and Delaware Park.

Favorite Tale went undefeated in four starts at Parx in 2014, also including a 14-length allowance win at 6 ½ furlongs in March. He is owned by PJG Stable and trained by Guadalupe Preciado,

Jockey Frankie Pennington earned his second career riding title at Parx, while trainer Ramon Preciado earned his first training title.

Preciado saddled three equine award winners on the evening: 2-year-old female Miss Holicong, claiming horse of the year and winning horse of the meet Handsup Moneydown, and outstanding claim of the year My Sonata.

My Sonata had been campaigned as a homebred by Pope Mclean and Ronald Glorioso, but she was claimed for $16,000 by Preciado for owner Gregory Gordon in her second start of the season. The Noble Causeway mare won four of six starts for her new connections for $124,230.
