The Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association named its divisional champions for the 2014 racing season, led by Grade 1 winner Real Solution. The 6-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy was voted Pennsylvania’s champion older male and turf male by the PHBA’s awards committee after a campaign that comprised one win in five starts for earnings of $643,175. That victory came in the Grade 1 Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park and came in the wake of a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Man O’ War Stakes. Real Solution is campaigned as a homebred by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, and he is trained by Chad Brown. Pennsylvania’s other Grade 1 winner in 2014 was steeplechaser Divine Fortune, who won five of 11 starts for earnings of $195,000. The 12-year-old Royal Anthem gelding was victorious in the Grade 1 Iroquois Hurdle Stakes and the Colonial Cup Stakes en route to becoming an Eclipse Award finalist as champion steeplechaser, an honor he won in 2013. William Pape and trainer Jonathan Sheppard campaign the homebred Divine Fortune in partnership. Also taking home multiple awards was Miss Behaviour, who was named Pennsylvania’s top 3-year-old filly and female sprinter. The daughter of Jump Start won two of seven starts last year for $548,834, highlighted by wins in the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks and the listed Miss Preakness Stakes. She also finished second in the Grade 1 Test Stakes, the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes, and the Grade 3 Victory Tide Stakes. Miss Behaviour races as a homebred for Cal McWilliam and Neil Teitelbaum, and she is trained by Phil Schoenthal.
