The richest weekend of racing of the long year at Penn National in Grantville, Pa., got under way Friday evening with three stakes, all for female runners. Here is a recap of those Friday races: * $100,000 Red Carpet: Martita Sangrita ($16.40), with Luis Garcia riding, rallied from mid-pack to overtake Clare Skies Ahead in this 1 1/16-mile turf race, with Safe Crossing, the front-runner and 17-10 favorite, fading to third. The winner is owned by the Lael Stables and is trained by Leigh Delacour. * $100,000 Jennie Wade: Sensible Lady ($4) notched her third stakes victory from her last four starts when rallying from last under Xavier Perez for a 1 1/4-length triumph in this 5 1/2-furlong turf race. Krusin Kelly was second at 14-1, while Somasach was third and Carole’s Love was third in a field of seven. The winner is based in Maryland with trainer Tim Salzman. *  $75,000 Femme Fatale: Srumdiddlyumptious, with Chuck Lopez up, dueled Doe into defeat, then held off favored Singlet and Hot Roots to capture this six-furlong race by a half-length. The winner returned $8 as fourth choice in a field reduced to just five. She is based at Monmouth Park for owners George and Lori Hall and trainer Kelly Breen. A 10-race Saturday evening card will feature the annual Penn showcase, the 40th running of the $200,000 Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup for older turf sprinters, among three six-figure stakes.
