Penn National: Deal Making gets up late in Robellino

Email

Deal Making took the lead with 20 yards to go to win the $75,000 Robellino at Penn National Friday evening.

Trained by Graham Motion, Deal Making recorded his first win since 2008 by defeating older Pennsylvania-breds going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf.

Jockey Jeremy Rose kept the 6-year-old gelding back early and along the rail in the field of eight. Deal Making angled out and rallied into the stretch near the middle of the track. The final margin of victory was a half-length with Roadhog second, a neck in front of a late-running Saco River.

The running time was 1.41.83 and Deal Making returned $3.80 to win.

In the night's other stakes, You Need Me came from just off the early pace to win the $75,000 Russian Rhythm for statebreds.

Trained by Mike Rogers, the 4-year-old daughter of Indian Charlie was kept just to the outside of the early pacesetters in the five-furlong turf event. Jockey Josean Ramirez asked You Need Me for her best in the stretch and she responded, taking the lead inside the eighth pole and then holding off a late-charging Look At Me Dance by a neck. Look At Me Dance finished a half-length in front of Amnesian in third.

You Need Me ran the five furlongs over a firm turf course in 56.06 and returned $21 to win.
