Peck: Laurel Park pick four for Saturday, Sept. 16

Email

Several scratches in the Lady Turf Dash affected the ticket some, but here is an updated look at today's midcard pick four at Laurel, featuring the Fall Festival of Racing.

RACE 5: CLASS AND CASH cuts back from routes, but he's speedy, and he's inside. AMELIA'S WILD RIDE is probably better going longer, but he has to be respected off his back form. TRIPLE BURNER was second in this race last year and was in against a very deep group in his only other try going six furlongs on the green. SPRING TO THE SKY figures to be prominent from the start.

RACE 6: LIGHT UP OUR WORLD was second as the favorite in her latest, but she had some trouble there and ran well in defeat, as she was behind a tepid, controlled pace. ON LEAVE is the filly to beat on the strength of that last Beyer Speed Figure, earned in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa at Saratoga.

RACE 7: Using all 11 in the Lady Turf Dash, which came up very competitive, with nary an entrant who can be dismissed. Obviously, looking to beat GINGER N RYE, the likely favorite, but if that's the case, it's fairly wide open.

B's: 8, 11
C's: 1, 3, 6, 12, 14

RACE 8: CANESSAR makes his U.S. debut for Arnaud Delacour, an exceptional turf trainer who does especially well with runners off a layoff. INFINITE WISDOM could be the main speed in what looks like a fairly paceless race; dangerous if left unchecked on the lead. HOLIDAY STAR was off the board in his first start off the long layoff, but that extended break gives him an obvious excuse, and he was also against the race flow, which favored speeds.
