Peach Flambe caps stakes menu

Peach Flambe won the final stakes of the 2008 Gulfstream Park meeting, registering a popular 2 1/4-length victory over Cat Can Do in Saturday's $75,000 Cicada Stakes for fillies and mares.

Peach Flambe, a 5-year-old daughter of Flying Chevron, stalked the early pace of Silversider, moved to command on the far turn, resisted a mild bid from Prop Me Up nearing the quarter pole, and after drawing well clear withstood a belated rally from Cat Can Do. Lady Byar finished another 2 1/2 lengths farther back in third.

Peache Flame, who earlier in the meet finished second behind reigning Eclipse Award champion Ginger Punch, paid $4 after covering the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.67 over a fast track.

"She got a nice position and never had to worry," said Eddie Castro, who rode Peache Flambe for trainer Mark Hennig. "We got to the three-eighths pole and she wanted to run, and I just let her go. She won easy."
