Paz Ciudadana takes Cornucopia Handicap

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Paz Ciudadana picked up her third straight stakes win Sunday afternoon at Harrah's Louisiana Downs as the Steve Asmussen trainee captured the Cornucopia Handicap. Rose Hunter finished second in the closing day featured followed by Due to Win Again.

Confidently handled by Luis Quinonez, who was uninjured following a spill his mount took two races before the Cornucopia, Paz Ciudadana ($4.00) swept to the front in the second turn of the grassy mile and a sixteenth test for fillies and mares. The 5-year-old Chilean-bred eventually drove steadily clear to prevail by a length and a half in a time of 1:41.95.

The winner accounted for the Rick Memorial Stakes at Remington and the Margarita Stakes at Retama Park in her previous two starts and has now won eight of her 15 career starts. Sunday's winner's share of $24,000 increased her career bankroll to just over $194,000.
