Paz Ciudadana seeks fourth stakes in row

Louisiana Downs
Paz Ciudadana gets a break in the weights Saturday at Sam Houston. She has won stakes in her last three races.

Paz Ciudadana's tour of the region makes a stop at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night, where she will attempt to win her fourth straight stakes race in the $40,000 Houston Chronicle.

The 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares, the first stakes of the meet, drew a field of 10.

Since August, Paz Ciudadana has won the $50,000 Margarita Breeders' Cup at Retama Park, the $40,000 Ricks Memorial at Remington Park, and the $40,000 Cornucopia Handicap at Louisiana Downs in her last three starts.

In her most recent outing, Paz Ciudadana rallied from well back for a 1 1/4-length win in the Cornucopia on Oct. 9.

"She's tough in these spots," said Steve Asmussen, who trains Paz Ciudadana. "This race weights itself, so it's a good option. Last time, she gave everybody plenty [of weight]. She spotted them from six to 10 pounds."

Paz Ciudadana, who carried 123 pounds last out and will tote the same amount Saturday under the weight-for-age conditions of the Houston Chronicle, also won the $50,000 Honeymoon at Louisiana Downs in May.

She will be coupled with Voz de Colegiala. Glen Murphy has been named on both halves of the entry.

Others in the field include Rose Hunter, runner-up in the Cornucopia, and Lost Bride, who invades from Hawthorne.
