Pay the Man seeks four-peat

Pay the Man has won the last three runnings of the $50,000 Angenora Stakes, but she will have a tough time extending her streak in the six-furlong race because her main rival in the nine-horse field of Ohio-bred fillies and mares will be Slides Choice, the Ohio-bred horse of the year in 2009 as a 3-year-old. Slides Choice earned horse of the year honors after defeating Pay the Man by a nose in the Best Of Ohio Distaff in October.

Pay the Man, a 6-year-old daughter of Bernstein, has an affinity for the Thistledown racing strip. She has won 10 of her 12 starts here and has been beaten only once by a female rival.

Pay the Man finished second and third from three starts at Tampa By Downs this winter, and the drop back into the statebred ranks will make her very difficult to handle. Pay the Man is owned by the Pyrite Stable, trained by Miguel Feliciano, and will be ridden by the trainer's nephew Ricky Feliciano.

Slides Choice is a multiple-stakes-winning daughter of Devil His Due who has won 8 of 17 career starts for earnings of $392,965. She has finished second, third, and fourth from four starts this year while racing at Keeneland and Gulfstream in optional claiming company. Slides Choice likes to run from just off the pace, and a speed duel between her and Pay the Man could develop. Jason Lumpkins will ride for trainer Tim Hamm.
