Pay the Man seeks first Beulah win

Pay the Man has won multiple statebred honors in Ohio but has yet to win at Beulah Park. Trainer Miguel Feliciano hopes to change that when Pay the Man faces 10 other Ohio-bred fillies and mares in the $50,000 Scarlet and Gray Handicap over six furlongs at Beulah Park on Saturday.

Pay the Man has won the Angora, the J.W. Petro Memorial, and the Rose DeBartolo Memorial in 2009, but all were at Thistledown. In her most recent out on Oct. 3, the 5-year-old ran second, beaten a nose to Slides Choice in the Best of Ohio Distaff at Thistledown. Slides Choice came back to run second in the Grade 2, $300,000 Raven Run at Keeneland last Saturday.

Pay the Man has run twice at Beulah, with her best result a third-place finish. The Pyrite Stables homebred is very accomplished, however, sporting a 14-2-5 record in 34 starts while earning more than $530,000.

Pyrite Stables has two others entered in the race - Pyrite Gem and Pyrite Marci - but they will not run as a coupled entry because racing secretary Ed Vomacka received permission from the Ohio Racing Commission to uncouple the entries based on the number of horses nominated to the stakes.

The Scarlet and Gray will be the 12th race of the Beulah Park/Thisteldown 7/7 program.
