Paul Meyocks, agent, dead at 81

Paul Blair Meyocks, the former longtime jockey agent for Hall of Fame rider Earlie Fires and the father of former racing executive Terry Meyocks, died Sunday in a south Florida nursing home after a yearlong battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 81.

Meyocks was an agent for more than 50 years, over half of them for Fires, one of only 14 riders with more than 6,000 career victories. Meyocks also booked mounts for several other riders, including Steve Cauthen and Bill Hartack.

In addition to his son, Meyocks is survived by a daughter-in-law, Stacy, and three grandchildren, Abby, Kevin, and Clay.

Viewing is scheduled for Thursday at Kenny Brothers Funeral Home, 3600 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park, Ill. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan, Ave. Suit 1700, Chicago, Ill., 60601, or a charity of one's choice.
