Past You strong in Courtship

Past You, second in the Bustles and Bows Stakes at Pomona in her last race, looks to have found a good spot to gain her first stakes victory as she takes on five rivals in Sunday's $50,000-added Courtship Stakes. The six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies will be run as the eighth race on the nine-race Sunday program.

Past You has made seven starts for a record of 1-2-2 and earnings of more than $45,000 so far in her juvenile campaign for trainer James Chapman. She began her career at Santa Anita in March, finishing third in a pair of two-furlong maiden races. She also finished second in maiden company at Hollywood Park before gaining her initial victory against $62,500 maiden claimers.

She stepped right up to the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes after her maiden win, finishing a well-beaten fifth. In her last race, she rallied from just off the pace in the Bustles and Bows, finishing second behind Green Eyed Lady. She will have the services of Russell Baze for Sunday's headliner.

Glimmering Bay moves into the Courtship undefeated. She proved the best in her debut here during the San Mateo Fair for trainer Eoin Harty. She was well regarded that day being sent off as the 2-1 second choice and she has been training well since that effort.

The News' West also moves into the Courtship off a victory. Trained by Art Sherman, she triumphed here in allowance company on Sept. 10. The News' West was second in her previous start against $62,500 claimers at Del Mar.

The Jeff Bonde-trained entry of Excessive Prayer and Gloriously Golden could also have a say in Sunday's race. Excessive Prayer is still a maiden but has run well to be second in both of her starts. She took up on the turn in her debut at Sacramento and then finished strongly to be second. Last out she was on the pace throughout and wound up second beaten just a length.
