Pashito the Che noses out Silver Edition in Hard Spun

Pashito the Che barely kept his perfect record at Delaware Park intact when he held off a late rush from Silver Edition to win Wednesday’s $50,000 Hard Spun Stakes by a nose.

A 4-year-old trained by Scott Lake, Pashito the Che ($3.20), the 3-2 favorite in a field of five older sprinters, set a pressured pace and opened up a two-length lead with a furlong remaining, then was all out to nip the 9-1 Silver Edition.

The winning time over a fast track was 1:09.44.

Pashito the Che, ridden by Abel Castellano Jr., is now 3 for 3 racing at Delaware and 8 for 17 lifetime. Earlier this year, he was second in the Sunshine Millions Sprint. As a 3-year-old last season, he won the $250,000 Gallant Bob Handicap at Parx Racing.

Silver Edition, ridden by Gabriel Saez for trainer D. Wayne Lukas, barely missed snapping a 13-race losing streak that began after he won the Hot Springs at Oaklawn Park in March 2009. He had not finished better than fifth in five starts this season.

Silver Edition was 2 ¼ lengths clear of the third-place finisher, Whistle Pig.
