Parx: Good stakes fields on tap

The first stakes races of the Parx season this Saturday have come up strong.

The Parx Derby and the Parx Oaks, both $75,000 races at a mile and 70 yards, are new to the schedule.

The Derby will match Unrivaled, most recently seventh in the Blue Grass Stakes for trainer Marya Montoya and Team Valor International, against Bodhisattva, who won the Federico Tesio at Pimlico on April 18. The seven-horse field also includes the Todd Pletcher-trained Dontbetwithbruno and Bluegrass Singer, the winner of the Mucho Macho Man at Gulfstream Park in January.

The Oaks field includes Grade 1 Frizette winner By the Moon and Busanda winner Overprepared.

There are also two Pennsylvania-bred stakes on the card, the Lyman Handicap and the Foxy J. G., each of which has drawn a large field.

The stakes are followed by a $54,000, no-conditions allowance race at seven furlongs that has drawn Fred Hooper and Monmouth Cup winner Valid.

◗ Parx, usually dark on Fridays, has added a live race card to coincide with Kentucky Oaks Day. First post is 12:55 p.m.

◗ Trainer Ramon Preciado won the 1,000th race of his career in the seventh race at Parx on Tuesday. Preciado, the leading trainer by wins at Parx last year, won race 7,a first-level allowance, with Fantastic Voyage, who he claimed last time out for $12,500 at Gulfstream Park. Fantastic Voyage came into the race with a 1-for-31 record.
