Parx: Daveron outfinishes Gitchee Goomie again in Dr. James Penny Handicap

Daveron, under Eddie Castro, wins her second straight stakes in the Dr, James Penny Memorial Handicap.

Daveron pulled away to a 2 1/4-length victory over Gitchee Goomie on Monday in the $200,000 Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap for fillies and mares on the turf at Parx Racing.

A 6-year-old bred in Germany, Daveron ($11) posted her third win in the last four races. She is 2 for 2 on the season, beating Gitchee Goomie both times.

Last time out, Daveron won by a neck in the Grade 3 Beaugay at Belmont Park. No win photo was required this time.

Daveron flirted with the course record for about 1 1/16 miles over the firm ground. She was clocked in 1:43.34, coming within .08 of a second of the 1:43.26 mark set by Mount Bleu on Oct. 4, 1994.

Eddie Castro guided Daveron to the victory with an ideal ground-saving journey. They hugged the fence right behind the leaders before angling clear as the field turned for home.

At that point, Daveron was in control en route to the sixth win of her career. Daveron is owned by Team Valor and trained by Graham Motion, who also sent out Check the Label, an uncoupled stablemate, who finished third.

While Daveron had the perfect trip, Gitchee Goomie had to rally from last after entrymate Trix in the City set the pace.

Desert Sage, the 2-1 favorite, was fourth followed by Trix in the City, Strike the Bell, Bet On the Blue, and Exquisite
