Parthenhope part of a record . . . for a few days

Email

Parthenope tied for the most wins by a horse in North America this year last Friday when she captured a six-furlong starter allowance for fillies and mares.

The victory was Parthenope's second of the Hoosier meet and her ninth in 20 starts this season. That put Parthenope in a five-way tie for first, which was broken Monday at Woodbine when the Ontario-based Cold War won his 10th race of the year.

Another Hoosier-based runner, Longbranch Saloon, is among the four U.S.-based runners with nine victories, and he will seek his 10th victory in Hoosier's 12th race on Friday, a starter allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs. Indy Energy, who has eight wins on the season, is also entered in that starter allowance, but Longbranch Saloon figures to be a solid favorite on the strength of his seven-race winning streak.

* Mr. Mink, a former Indiana horse of the year, ran his Hoosier record to 10 wins in 13 starts with an easy 4 1/2-length victory last Friday in a $16,500 money allowance. That victory likely served as a prep for the $40,000 Brickyard Stakes on Oct. 22, a statebred event Mr. Mink won last year.
