Parade of favorites come home

EmailChalk players cashed plenty of tickets on Tuesday at Fairmount Park as six of the eight races on the card were won by favorites. Cart Teacher and Sir Talc, winners of the first and last races, were the only non-favorites to win, but both were close second choices in the wagering.

The average win payoff on the card was slightly more than $4.40, with the day's smallest mutuel belonging to Saville Hotel ($2.60), who solidified her claim as the best 2-year-old filly on the grounds with a length win in the $16,610 Miss Susan's Rib Handicap. A maiden winner in her previous start, Saville Hotel was ridden to victory by Rafael Hernandez for owner Bill Stiritz and trainer Terry Gestes. Final time for six furlongs over a fast track was 1:14.20, and the winning Beyer Speed Figure was 48.

* The Illinois Racing Board at a meeting on Tuesday approved a 90-day meet for Fairmount in 2008. Racing will be conducted on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from March 4 through Sept. 27.
