Papoose Dancer moves up in class

CALGARY, Alberta - Papoose Dancer searches for her second victory of the campaign in the $19,200 seventh race at six furlongs here at Stampede Park on Wednesday.

Papoose Dancer moves up a notch in the $30,000 claimer for fillies and mares, which attracted seven entrants. She comes off a very convincing score over $22,000 company going four furlongs here March 23.

Quincy Welch retains the mount for trainer Lianne Knechtel and will break Papoose Dancer from the inside post as the 7-5 morning-line favorite.

Cinnamon Brown, second to Papoose Dancer in her first start since May 2005, is a threat to turn the tables this time.

Stephan Heiler retains the mount on Cinnamon Brown, who will break from post 6.

Holiday weekend ends strong

The holiday weekend started out with a whimper but ended up with a bang Sunday with the best card of the young season.

On Good Friday, the program was canceled after two races when the riders declared it was too cold to continue. On Easter Sunday, the sun came out after a prolonged period of miserable weather. Fans were able to go outdoors and enjoy the action.

Churchbridge, owned by Kootenay Royal Stable, was cheered home by his Cranbrook, British Columbia, connections and rolled home a handy winner in 1:10.80, by far the best six-furlong clocking of the meeting.
