Palm Meadows: Ruler On Ice works for Donn Handicap

The stars were out Saturday at Palm Meadows. Among the most prominent names on the work tab, each of whom worked five furlongs were, Ruler On Ice (58.23), Jackson Bend (59.42), Awesome Feather (1:01.44), and Adios Charlie (1:00.03).

Ruler On Ice is also expected to make his 2012 debut in the Donn. Jackson Bend is being pointed for next Saturday’s Grade 3 Hal’s Hope. Awesome Feather will put her undefeated mark on the line in the Sunshine Millions Distaff while Adios Charlie is expected to return in the Sunshine Millions Classic.

Apriority eyes Sunshine Millions Sprint

Apriority grabbed a quarter when stumbling out of the gate at the start of last week’s Mr. Prospector. But it was almost a half-dollar sized piece of his foot the veterinarian trimmed off several days after Apriority’s gutsy victory over Zero Rate Policy in the Grade 3 sprint.

“He’s already back to the track and is training very well,” said trainer David Fawkes. “He really had no ill effects at all from what happened. We didn’t even have to change his shoes, we just tubbed him and kept the wound clean.”

Fawkes said if all continues to go well, Apriority could return in the Florida Sunshine Millions Sprint on Jan. 28.

Fawkes will also be in action that same day with Duke of Mischief, who worked a mile in 1:45.40 at Calder on Friday.

“I nominated him both to the Classic and the Turf. We could go either way,” said Fawkes.
