Pair streak into claimer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Lucky On the River and Great Prince will put their two-race winning streaks on the line when they meet in a $7,500 claiming race that will serve as Friday's feature race at Hastings. The 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up drew 11 horses and goes as race 7.

Lucky On the River has been a good claim for trainer Steve Henson. Acting on behalf of Pocket Aces Racing Stable, Henson haltered Lucky On the River for $3,000 at Turf Paradise in February. He has improved considerably since he arrived here, winning both of his starts in conditional claiming races for $3,000 and $5,000, respectively. Lucky On the River has good speed and figures to be on or near the lead in his first race going around three turns. He has only tried a middle distance twice, finishing second in two-turn miles both times.

Great Prince is running at his best distance. Trained by Harold Barroby, Great Prince has won eight races going 1 1/16 miles, all of them at Hastings. His last two wins came five days apart. With Pedro Alvarado aboard, he came from off the pace to win a $5,000 conditioned claiming race on May 24 and then beat next-out winner Super Steve from a stalking position in a $7,500 claiming race on May 29.

Vinter could be coming up to a big race for trainer Barbara Heads. Vinter finished third to Great Prince on May 29, but it was just his second start of the year.
