Page McKenney has look of a Special horse

Page McKenney captured the Harrison Johnson Memorial last Saturday and may now be headed to the Pimlico Special.

Page McKenney just keeps getting better.

Last Saturday, he turned in a strong performance to win the Harrison Johnson Memorial in the mud at Laurel Park by four lengths. The 1 1/8-mile race was basically over at the top of the stretch when he took the lead three wide.

Page McKenney has now won 10 races and $480,000 since trainer Mary Eppler claimed him at Penn National for $16,000 in July 2013.

Following the Johnson Memorial, Eppler said she would consider the Grade 3, $300,000 Pimlico Special for Page McKenney’s next start. The Special is run May 15, the day before the Preakness, on the same card as the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan.

“He loved Pimlico when we ran him there last year,” Eppler said.

Page McKenney would have a home-field advantage in the Pimlico Special since that is where Eppler is based.
