A. P. Arrow to stand in S. Africa

Grade 2 winner A. P. Arrow will enter stud in South Africa after a private deal in which Michael and Leonora Paulson will sell him to Summerhill Stud, Drakenstein Stud, and an unidentified European investor.

Summerhill Stud in the province of KwaZulu-Natal will stand the 7-year-old A. P. Indy horse.

The Allen E. Paulson Living Trust bred A. P. Arrow from the Mr. Prospector mare Garimpeiro. She also is the dam of Grade 1 winner Geri, Grade 3-placed Stage Shy, and stakes winners Almonsoon and Clure.

A. P. Arrow earned more than $1.4 million and won 5 races from 29 career starts for the Paulsons. His most noteworthy stakes victories came in the Grade 2 Clark and Grade 3 Skip Away handicaps in 2007, but he also placed in three Grade 1 stakes.

"It was only the current financial crunch in the U.S. that made him reachable," Summerhill Stud owner Mick Goss said in making the announcement, "and while we still had to 'mortgage the farm' to get him, we wouldn't have fired so much as a shot for a horse of this class in normal times. We're just so grateful to have him, and especially for the help of old friends in making it possible."
