Over and Under has class edge at Prairie

Email

With the last three Saturdays having been devoted to statebred stakes, Prairie Meadows will offer two open stakes on Saturday night. First up is the $50,000 Wild Rose for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles. Heading the way is the Dallas Stewart-trained Over and Under, who was the beaten favorite in her last start, an allowance at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks Day.

Prior to that the WinStar Farm homebred had finished third in the $100,000 Bayakoa at Oaklawn Park. Terry Thompson will ride Over and Under for the first time.

Miss Buddhafull was claimed out of an optional race for $50,000 last time out. Already a three-time winner in 2008, Miss Buddhafull will be ridden by Israel Ocampo.

If the track comes up sloppy it would certainly improve the chances of Makepeace, whose last two victories have been on off tracks.

The $50,000 Jim Rasmussen Memorial also will be run Saturday. The 1 1/16-mile race has attracted a field of of 10, and it lacks a standout.

Sumac, who looped the field to win going away in an allowance race last time out, may hold a slight edge. Tim Doocy is named to ride Sumac again.

The hard-knocking Wayzata Bay was second in last year's Rasmussen. After finishing second in his most recent start, the Bosselmann/Gus Fonner Handicap, he returns to his home base and to a surface where he's won 7 times in 10 starts.
