Oust's win streak ends at five

EmailOust's five-race win streak at Fairmount, which included a victory in the $45,000 Tex's Zing Handicap, was snapped last Saturday in the $16,560 Rare Vintage Handicap for older horses at 1 1/16 miles. Second choice Never Was ($7.20) was allowed an uncontested lead, and he held on gamely to post a neck victory over 7-1 shot Earths Vain Shadow, with Oust another half-length behind in third.

Fourth to Oust in the Tex's Zing in his previous start on July 31, Never Was had entered the Rare Vintage off a strong half-mile work in 46.80 seconds for trainer Mike Nance. The Rare Vintage was one of four winning rides on the evening for leading jockey Rafael Hernandez.

* Illini Destiny ($13.60) was a comfortable four-length winner over favorite Military King in Tuesday's $16,680 Robin Zee Handicap for 2-year-old colts and geldings. The Robin Zee was the second win in an 11-day span for Illini Destiny, who had won a maiden race over the same track on Sept. 14. With Luis Medina aboard, Illini Destiny covered six furlongs in 1:13.40.
