Osidy wins Will Rogers Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Osidy scored his first stakes win in Saturday's $109,900 at Hollywood Park, and did so in a manner that suggests the colt has plenty of room for improvement.

Sent off favored, Osidy ($4.80) rallied from sixth to win the one-mile turf race by a head over 18-1 Willow o Wisp. Osidy needed the entire stretch to reach the front under Alex Solis, and got to the front after considerable urging.

"He's got some learning to do," trainer Richard Mandella said. "He had to maneuver between horses. It was his first time around two turns."

Osidy was timed in 1:34.67. Willow o Wisp finished 1 1-2 lengths in front of Eastern Sand in the field of eight 3-year-olds.

Stakes-placed in France last year, Osidy finished second in the Harry Henson Stakes in his U.S. debut on April 22. Owned by B. Wayne Hughes, Osidy has won 3 of 7 starts and $136,256.

Mandella said the colt will be pointed for the $150,000 Cinema Breeders' Cup Handicap over 1 1-8 miles on turf on June 26.
